POS System for Petrol Stations

POS Windows Terminal (.NET, WPF)

Petro by Stonito is a modern software solution designed specifically for petrol stations. It integrates seamlessly with Doms, a forecourt controller installed on-site, to manage stock levels and track fuel inflows and outflows. Additionally, it facilitates sales transactions and manages a convenience shop simultaneously. The software is divided into two components:

  • a WPF modern terminal for the point of sale (POS)
  • a back office web application that can be accessed using any browser

The POS terminal displays the main states of the fueling points along with their substates using easy-to-understand graphics, rather than cryptic codes, and updates this information in real time. The cashier can easily preset or prepay for the desired fueling point, or simply authorize it to start fueling. In case of any issues, the cashier also has the ability to perform an emergency stop on any fueling point.

Once a fuel transaction is completed, the cashier can view it and lock it in the current bill, ensuring that other POS terminals connected to the same system cannot duplicate the transaction. Additionally, the cashier can initiate a new shift and, by using a barcode scanner, can add other sale items to the current bill.

While touchscreen terminals are practical for point-of-sale (POS) installations, they have several disadvantages, including high costs, smaller screen sizes, and the need for frequent cleaning due to constant use by multiple hands. My approach involves using larger monitors for the terminals, which makes them easier to read and understand. Additionally, a simple mouse is sufficient to navigate and control all the available options effectively.

POS Back Office Web application (.NET, EF CORE, Firebird SQL)

Similarly, the back office is not an installable application; rather, it is a web application accessible to many users simultaneously, each operating from their own computers and browsers.

Significant effort has been put into ensuring that every transaction is tracked safely within the back office. Specifically, Doms maintains its own totalizers for each nozzle at every fueling point and can read pump totals directly from the dispenser.

With every transaction reported by Doms and stored in the database, the current totalizer values for the relevant nozzle are also recorded. This is highly beneficial, as comparing the new total with the total from a previous transaction for the same nozzle should yield the volume of the transaction.

If the values do not match, the issue is highlighted in red in the relevant documents, allowing petrol station management to easily identify the problem. Conversely, if everything checks out, they can be confident that all dispensed fuel from the dispensers is accurately accounted for through the POS system.

Reports in PDF format readily available on single click

Reporting in the back office is conducted through PDF documents. These documents are generated and displayed in the default application for opening PDF files, where they can be saved or printed.

The database used is Firebird SQL, a lightweight, highly capable, and completely free open-source server that is currently at its latest version.

The web application is developed in ASP.NET using .NET 10 and Razor Pages.

This project is brand new, and I am available to host a real-time presentation over Internet for all interested parties. Additionally, I am open to updating the software with any custom needs or requirements from our customers.
